LICENCE TO BREATHE
In our last two articles we looked at my #1 concern - Clean Drinkable Water. This week’s piece poses that without Clean Breathable Air, there is no Clean Drinkable Water. The two issues are interdependent, and that Our Human Rights to both of these Life Essentials are being criminally eroded by the actions of Global Industry.
The Internet, for all it’s faults, publishes daily facts and figures on the scale the of devastating results of corporate greed and blind political corruption that puts us all and Our World in danger. Rather than just accepting my opinions, may I encourage you to read and decide for yourselves where the truth lies, and to calmly consider how we may peacefully and effectively avoid Planetary Suicide.
We read and hear of smoke dangers from forest fires that destroy vast areas of Our environment. We learn of mass migrations of refugees from flood, drought and WAR, who loose their lives as they reach out to countries SEEN as offering greater safety.
Yet the Oceans and Skies of Our World NOT SAFE; They are chock-a-block full of microplastics that are Still widening the OZONE HOLE…… So, where does this microplastic fine particulate material come from ? Have you read or heard of of the ever expanding GLOBAL DUST BELT ? The belt comprises arid + desert regions extending from Central America, to most of North Africa, and on through the Middle East, to India and China. The belt is bordered by much of Our Worlds Industry, producing dust from & containing :- aerosolized sewage, pesticides, heavy metals, fossil fuels and radioactive particles. PLUS TYRE DUST (** See Below). In other words - HUMAN MADE CONTENT BOUGHT, USED & DUMPED BY ALL OF US…..

In the Guardian recently was an article that stated 98% of Europeans ae breathing Highly Damaging Polluted Air linked to 400,000 Deaths and One Million Stillbirths every year. That polluted air is caused in part by the Global Dust Belt, via it’s violent storms that lift the pollutant particles high enough to spread the poisons throughout Our World’s Atmosphere.
WHAT HAS SHOCKED ME THE MOST HERE, IS THE DISCOVERY THAT ROAD TRANSPORT ELEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THE INDUSTRIES ALONG THE GLOBAL DUST BELT IS THIS :- Quite apart from the horrors inflicted by the burning of fossil fuels is that an average car’s **tyre’s emit Four Trillion ultrafine particles Per Kilometre Driven, and that they penetrate just about Every Organ in your body. One quarter of the construction materials are synthetic rubbers - ie:- Plastics mixed with heavy metals, producing a fish killing chemical called “6PPD”. That’s just one of the 400+ chemicals in your **tyres, and in Our Air heading for Our Water.
TWO BILLION NEW TYRES ARE MANUFACTURED EVERY YEAR !?!?! MORE FRESH TYRES MEANS LESS FRESH AIR: THINK ABOUT THAT…… please…….
NOW HERE’S THE HAMMER - 78% !! YES 78% !! of the microplastics in Our Oceans come from Tyres….. Made, bought, used and dumped by us all. MEA CULPA; yes, but why ?
Because we fell for the Seductive Lies, The Dishonest Promises of a Better Life.
Time to Heal Our World ? YES: Time to Change ? YES: Let’s revisit in a fortnight, look at some peaceful positive actions we can take as individuals working together. And at some great examples that are already underway. In the meantime, Read, Read, Read & Discuss.
Now, in case you were wondering about this weeks subtitle……. many, many moons ago I heard a radio programme on how the number and costs of licenses were on a steep increase. One of the commentators quipped “Petty soon they’ll be making us buy a license to breathe !!” …. The absurdity appealed and eventually it became the title and refrain of a song I wrote, just after being challenged (Incorrectly as it turned out) by an over zealous policeman whilst playing my guitar in the street one day. Aaaah, but life has it’s moments !!

Nailed it. In all the brouhaha about emissions these are conveniently overlooked. An EV, being heavier than an equivalent ICE vehicle will create more of this type of pollution. A timely piece that I hope is widely read.
I thought of this post when I bought new tires last week - after 58,000 miles on my Prius. The tires were almost worn smooth. Where did all the rubber and chemicals go? Into the air we breathe - but I'm not sure there's a viable alternative - especially when industry only makes decisions based on economic criteria. Sad indeed
